UB40 tour: Ali, Astro and Mickey Virtue return to play shows across the UK in December 2017
Over the course of 40 years in the music business, iconic 1970s outfit UB40 have become one of the most influential artists in the history of British reggae; having crafted 18 studio albums, sold over 70 million records and released 50 singles. Creating songs that defined a generation, the group have also been honoured with four Grammy nominations, an Ivor Novello Award and sales that mark them as one of the bestselling bands of all time.
In 2017 Ali Campbell returns as frontman, joined by founding members Astro and Mickey Virtue, as the group play 12 shows across the UK in December. UB40 will be calling at: London, Cambridge, Folkestone, Newcastle, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Leeds, Brighton, Newport, Birmingham, Manchester and Bath.

UB40: legendary British reggae group who have influenced so many
Formed in 1978 in a Birmingham welfare line, the group named themselves after a British unemployment benefit form and brought their first instruments with compensation money after a bar fight. The original founders of the group were brothers Robin and Ali Campbell (guitar, lead vocals), bassist Earl Falconer, keyboardist Mickey Virtue, saxophonist Brian Travers, drummer Jim Brown, percussionist Norman Hassan and rapper Terence 'Astro' Wilson. This diverse group of musicians, originating from England, Scotland, Ireland, Jamaica and Yemen were influenced by genres such as reggae, ska, blues, rock and folk. Their unique sound captured the attention of the public when their hit "Red Red Wine" reached number one in the UK charts.
With politically charged songs like "Madame Medusa", the group achieved great success in England and America, enjoying a number of platinum-selling albums. While the group wrote much of their own material, they are perhaps best known for their incredible cover songs like Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling in Love", Al Green's "Here I am (Come and Take Me)" and The Temptations "The Way You Do the Things You Do".
Ali Campbell and Mickey Virtue left the band in 2008, followed by Astro in 2013 due to management issues. Thankfully the trio have reunited once more to bring their unique sound back to life.
