Jethro Tull tour: Ian Anderson to take band on 50th anniversary jaunt
Named after an 18th-century agriculturist for seemingly no apparent reason at all, Jethro Tull are one of the most successful and enduring progressive rock bands in music history. Led by vocalist/flautist/guitarist Ian Anderson (the band's only constant member) since its formation in 1967 – and propelled by hits such as "Living in the Past", The Witch's Promise" and "Bungle in the Jungle" – the group have sold an estimated 60 million records worldwide; with 11 gold and five platinum albums among the 21 they have released.
Their last works as a group to contain new material were released in 2003, though the band continued to gig until 2011. And now – to mark 50 years since the band's first gig at the world-famous Marquee Club in Wardour Street, London on 2 February 1968 – Ian Anderson is taking Jethro back on tour.
Along with Anderson, drummer Doane Perty, guitarist Martin Barre, keyboardist John O’Hara, and bassist David Goodier will play eight UK concerts during April 2018, including gigs at the Royal Albert Hall in London and the O2 Apollo in Manchester.
The band will also call at: Newcastle; Edinburgh; Liverpool; Bristol; Birmingham and Cambridge along the way, meaning classic rock fans up and down the country will have the chance to see Jethro Tull play live, so make sure you get your tickets at StubHub.
Jethro Tull: 50 years, 33 members, 60 million records
Speaking about the 50th anniversary gigs bandleader Ian Anderson said: "I am not usually a birthday or anniversary kind of guy but, just for once, I won’t be a party-pooper either!
"I treasure the memories of the earlier years of the Jethro Tull repertoire, associated as it is with the adventures of visiting so many countries for the first time to connect with new fans around the world. And this is a celebration of all the 33 band members who graced our ranks – musicians who brought their talents, skills and styles to bear on the performances live and in the studio.
"Join me and the current band for a nostalgic evening of varied music, representative of my ever-changing songwriting as our careers progressed through the years."
With eight tour dates to choose from, there's no reason to miss out on a terrific concert; pick up your Jethro Tull tickets at StubHub and see one of yesteryear's greatest rock bands live.
