Autumn Rugby Internationals: who'll stand tall after these mammoth clashes?
After completing a whitewash of Argentina, South Africa, Fiji and Australia last autumn, Eddie Jones' England then retained the Six Nations in March, before recording a mightily impressive 28-14 victory over an experienced Barbarians side in May; with teenagers Tom Curry, Nick Isiekwe and 22-year-old Nathan Earle, all demonstrating huge promise.
That was followed by a 2-0 series win over Argentina in a couple of high-scoring contests, and England will be hoping to continue their fine recent form when they host Australia, Argentina and Samoa at Twickenham in November. The matches are seen as an important step in England’s preparations for the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan and Eddie Jones’ side will have to be at their best to see off three tough opponents.
England’s final fixture against Samoa on 25 November will be followed by England Women's final game of a three-match series against Canada.
Ireland, meanwhile, will take on South Africa, Fiji and Argentina in their set of autumn international fixtures. Joe Schmidt's side face their first Test on 12 November against South Africa – who were beaten easily on their last visit to Dublin in November 2014; losing 29-15. Six days later Fiji play at the Aviva Stadium for the first time, followed by Argentina on 25 November, who beat the Irish in the 2015 World Cup quarter-finals in Cardiff.
Tough 2017 Autumn Rugby Internationals for Wales and Scotland
Wales have perhaps the most challenging set of fixtures – facing New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Georgia. The Welsh won three of their four autumn fixtures in 2016, beating South Africa, Japan and Argentina after losing to Australia. Scotland, meanwhile, come up against New Zealand, Australia and Samoa. The Pacific Islanders last played in Scotland seven years ago, when Ruaridh Jackson's dramatic late penalty earned the hosts a 19-16 victory at Pittodrie.
The All Blacks took on the Scots in the autumn series of 2014, emerging with a hard-fought 24-16 win, while the Wallabies play in Scotland for the second successive November, following their narrow 23-22 triumph last year.
