Isle of Wight Festival 2018: Liam Gallagher, Kasabian and The Killers headline
Isle of Wight Festival is one of the UK's oldest and most famous rock and pop music events. Running from 1968-1970 before being revived in 2002, the festival has hosted the biggest superstars of both eras from Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan to the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Arcade Fire.
The festival's mix of comedy, cabaret and poetry has also played a part in helping Isle of Wight win the Family Festival of the Year award on two occasions, with the Seaclose Park event known for its wide-range of activities and laid-back atmosphere.
On what will technically be the festival's 50th anniversary year, the likes of Liam Gallagher, Depeche Mode and Kasabian have already been confirmed for 2018 with the promise of more big acts to follow.

Isle of Wight Festival: 50th anniversary of one of the UK's oldest music events
First held in 1968, the event grew dramatically in the following two years, leading to Isle of Wight 1970 being labelled the largest musical event of its time. Although estimates vary, the Guinness World Records reckoned 600,000, possibly 700,000 people attended what was to be Jimi Hendrix's last ever gig.
A mixture of commerical, planning and logistical problems (i.e. transporting some 600,000 people onto an island with a population of fewer than 100,000) meant that 1970 was the last festival of its kind on the island for 32 years, before it was eventually revived in 2002.
In the comeback year, relatively small crowds of 8,000 were treated to performances from The Charlatans and Robert Plant; before 15,000 watched Paul Weller, Bryan Adams and Starsailor in 2003 as the event was extended to two days.
Crowds continued to rise exponentially over the coming years as the likes of David Bowie, Foo Fighters, Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones and Muse all performed and the festival extended to three and then four days.
