Founded as the Montreal Expos

The Washington Nationals began life as the Montreal Expos in 1969 and acquired their contemporary name when the team moved from Canada to the historic city and joined the Major League Baseball in 2005. The first MLB franchise to be based in the U.S. capital since the Washington Senators back in 1971, and the city's eighth overall, went on to win the National League East division titles no less than four times between 2012 and 2017. The state-of-the-art Nationals Park

Based at the RFK Stadium for their first two years in existence, the Washington Nationals moved to the state-of-the-art Nationals Park in 2008. Situated near the Anacostia River on Southeast D.C.'s South Capitol Street, the venue boasts a capacity of just over 41,000 and is the United States' first ever major professional sports stadium to receive a LEED green rating.
