Chicago Cubs History

Before turning into the Cubs, the team had many different names. They first started out as the White Stockings in 1870 until they changed their name to the Colts in 1890. Subsequently, they were called the Orphans in 1898 but after losing the season in 1901 the team started to be rebuilt with young players, hence the Cubs arose as the official name that still lasts today. However the Cubs are also known by other nicknames such as the North Siders, due to the location of Wrigley Field, the Boys in Blue because of the colour of their clothing or the Baby Bears.

During its over 150 years of history, the Chicago Cubs have had some of the greatest players of all times. Undeniably, third baseman Ron Santo, of whom there is a statue outside Wrigley Field and who was included in the Cub's Hall of Fame is one of them. Santo, who played 14 seasons and was the team's commentator on radio for 20 years until his demise in 2010 is among one of the most valued players. Without lagging behind, Sammy Sosa with his 66 home runs in 1998 led the Cubs to their first playoffs in nine years and Ryne Sandberg, considered the best second baseman in history.

Over the years, the Cubs have gained their popularity and zealous fanbase thanks to their achievements and contribution to the history of American baseball. To name a few of their milestones, the Cubs is the team with the best highest winning percentage, with a 763 percent gained in the season of 1906 and most recently, in 2016 the Chicago Cubs players became heroes when they won the World Series after 71 years since their last time.
