Arsenal FC - Gunning for the Title
Progress has been made at Emirates Stadium in recent years, which was demonstrated in the clearest possible fashion when the Gunners put their infamous trophy drought behind them with FA Cup victories in each of the past two seasons. Now, Arsene Wenger will push for the Premier League title, and with a significant transfer budget at his disposal he has been able to sign players of the calibre of Petr Cech, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez - all world class in their respective positions. These stars have added to the strong British core Wenger has built, with Kieran Gibbs, Calum Chambers, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott all influential members of the squad. The north London outfit may not have the financial power of some of their oligarch-backed rivals, but play some delightful football and 2016 could bring further success.
More About Arsenal FC - North London's Red Giants
Formed as Dial Square at the Royal Arsenal in Woolwich in 1886, the club moved to Holloway in north London in 1913 due to financial difficulties, setting up at the iconic Highbury Stadium. The appointment of innovative coach Herbert Chapman in 1925 proved a landmark moment, and the Gunners gained their first significant silverware under his leadership. Further trophies followed under Tom Whittaker after the Second World War, and with George Graham as manager, before the arrival of Arsene Wenger in 1996, who became the club's most successful head coach ever.
Under the Frenchman's command, the club have claimed three Premier League titles and six FA Cups, famously going unbeaten throughout the 2003-04 'Invincibles' season. Perhaps Wenger's greatest feat though was to maintain UEFA Champions League qualification even when financially burdened by the immense cost of a stadium move to Ashburton Grove, and that may prove his best appreciated legacy.
