Historical Retrospective of Switzerland's "A Team"
The Swiss national football team played its first ever international match in 1905 with a 1-0 loss to France. Twenty years later, they finished runners up to Uruguay at the Games in Paris of 1924 and followed that up with a quarter-final showing in a debut appearance at the 1934 Football World Cup. In 1954, the nation of Switzerland proudly hosted the Football World Cup for the first time and once again proved their mettle by gaining another quarter-final spot before being knocked out by Austria in a goal-laden 7-5 affair. The Switzerland National Football Team joins England National Football Team, Germany National Football Team and Italy National Soccer Team as other European teams that have hosted a Football World Cup. The decade of the 1990s saw the Switzerland men's national team record its highest ever world ranking (3rd) under the leadership of former UK national coach Roy Hodgson in 1993. This was followed up by a good showing at the Football World Cup in the USA before the team was ousted by Spain. Get your tickets and cheer them on in their mission for dominance. Recent years have shown a level of consistency for the Swiss national men's team in international tourneys: a round of 16 showing at the 2014 Football World Cup; another Round of 16 result at the 2016 European Football competition and yet a third Round of 16 finish at the 2018 Football World Cup. These successes prove that the Swiss football team has proved it can hold its own against other elite national teams in the sport, as seen in their 1-1 result against Brazil in summer 2018. Heinz Hermann still holds the record for most capped player with 118, followed closely by Alain Geiger with 112 while Alexander Frei owns the most goals scored record with 82. These former national legends have provided many minutes of thrilling and entertaining football for the entire country for years, but it's time for the legends of tomorrow to emerge. Watch them claim their place in history. Switzerland National Soccer Team tickets are available now for purchase or sale via StubHub.
