The group first formed in Houston from two rival bands: the Moving Sidewalks and American Blues. After a number of line-up changes the threesome of Billy Gibbons as frontman, bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard was settled. The group's intoxicating blues style, striking uniform of black clothes and long beards gained them a big audience fast. Their third album Tres Hombres - whichincluded the popular track 'La Grange' about a notorious Texas brothel - heralded the start of their rise to fame.

1983's Eliminator saw the group crossover into mainstream recognition, and quickly becoming MTV icons.
