Bruce Springsteen Biography - The Boss is Back
The young Springsteen was first enchanted by music after watching Elvis Presley perform on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1956. After buying a guitar, he soon joined his first band, The Castiles, before moving on to hard rock act Earth. After unsuccessful stints in various other groups, the singer found himself broke - and decided to pursue a solo career in New York. He soon acquired a manager who helped to sign him to renowned record label Columbia Records in 1972. In need of backing musicians, he created the foundation for what would become the E Street Band.
Despite acquiring an impressive underground following over first two albums Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. and The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle, the boss and his band only found their major breakthrough with 1975's Born to Run, which went platinum in both the UK and US. Today, the singer boasts an impressive arsenal of rock 'n' roll belters that include 'Streets of Philadelphia', 'I'm on Fire' and 'Hungry Heart'. The frontman has always wowed fans with his talent for songwriting and his distinctive voice, but it's his live shows that really stand out. Full of energy, passion and tending to last for upwards of three hours of hits, it's easy to see why this artist has managed to keep a global, devoted following.
