An inspiration to many
Born in 1955 in Sarstedt, near Hannover in Germany, the influential hard rock metal guitarist and song writer played his first gig at the age of 11 and made a name for himself with the German rock band Scorpions at just 16. It was when he was with the Scorpions that he was spotted by the up and coming UK band UFO, while on tour as their opening act, and was made UFO's lead guitarist (also co-writing many of their songs). By 1979, he had formed the Michael Schenker Group, his solo group. In 2012, he accepted a Lifetime Achievement in Rock and Roll Award from Vegas Rocks! Magazine. He has also been placed on Guitar World magazine's 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Guitarists.
