Where it all began for Lara Fabian

Born in Belgium in 1970 to a Sicilian mother and Belgian father, she studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels from the age of eight. The talented musician can sing in several different languages, including Flemish, French, English, Italian, Hebrew, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and German. Once she had finished her studies, she moved to Montreal, where she set up her own publishing company and label. She forged a long-time collaboration with her friend, music producer Rick Allison, with whom she would write and record songs for many years to come. In 1988, she represented Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest (the same year that Celine Dion won it representing Switzerland). Her appearance paved the way for her single to become a hit across Europe, selling around 500,000 copies.
