In 2007, guitarist Gloria Estrada and accordionist Pepe Carlos founded the band, recruiting other Mexican-American musicians to make up a sextet. Naming themselves after the patron saint of musicians, the group used traditional Latin music as the basis of their sound, but wrapped in a plethora of other influences including rock, soul, blues, jazz, funk, punk and reggae. They garnered a strong local fan base around California after spending the mid-to-late 2000s performing in bars, coffee houses and block parties. Making their music a part of their local community, the band treated their fans to 'painting parties' upon the release of their eponymous debut EP, which soon encouraged local airplay. The success of their initial EP and its follow up Noche y Citas in 2010 launched their profile worldwide, prompting a hugely successful tour of North America.
After signing to the record label Universal, the band astounded music lovers across the globe with their Grammy Award winning debut album Treinta Dias in 2014. To celebrate the release of their sophomore LP Beauenaventura, this Mexican-American powerhouse tour the UK in 2016, performing hits like 'Ice el Hielo' and 'Como Dios Manda'.
