Elvis Costello Biography - Living Legend of 'Oliver's Army'
Born in London in 1954, Declan Patrick MacManus had set his eyes on life as a professional musician by the age of 17. Adopting a stage name that paid tribute to Elvis Presley and his father's old performing moniker Costello, he found success with the punk sounds of early albums My Aim is True, This Year's Model and Armed Forces - the latter of which contained his monster hit single 'Oliver's Army'.
Performing with band the Attractions, he tried his hand at many different genres throughout his career. In 1981, they released both Trust, a new wave power pop effort, and Almost Blue, a covers LP of country songs that the band's leader had grown up listening to. Over the course of a successful four decades in the industry, this versatile artist has brought out an incredible 30 studio albums, as well as numerous live records and compilations. He is also the proud owner of four top five solo albums, including Brutal Youth and Punch the Clock, spawning infectious singles like 'Everyday I Write the Book' and 'Sulky Girl'.
