Although D-12 may owe its international success to band member Eminem, the band has managed to stand on its own power, even when the rap superstar has been on hiatus. Although the group has lost two members due to untimely deaths, their ability to carry on even after these tragedies has been a testament to the commitment they have to the genre and their fans.

Schedule

D-12 has made appearances all throughout America at venues like Turner Hall Ballroom in Milwaukee and The Underground in Reno, Nevada. They've also played in the UK at The Cockpit in Leeds and the Manchester Academy 2. Upcoming shows will have them tearing up stages from the O2 Academy Islington to Melkweg in Amsterdam and Bi Nuu in Berlin.

Trivia

Although the name D-12 stands for The Dirty Dozen, there are actually only six members in the band. This is because each band member has an alter ego. For instance, Eminem is also known as Slim Shady. Band member Bizarre earned his stage name when he was in grade school. A teacher believed he was talking to himself, so he began calling the young student "bizarre.

Band/Singer

D-12 came together in 1996 and released The Underground EP, their debut album, in 1997. The band was composed of Eminem, Bizarre, Proof, Kuniva, Kon Artis, and Bugz. Each individual member would begin getting local attention, but Eminem's sudden success threw the band into hiatus for some time. Proof managed to recruit new talent to keep the group going, but Bugz passed away May 1999. This led to Eminem coming back. The band would also end up losing Proof to an untimely death, but Fuzz Scoota and Swifty McVay ended up joining the group to round out the six piece. D-12 would go through several hiatuses over time, but it was confirmed in January 2014 that the band had again begun recording.

Breakthrough

D-12 received much attention in Detroit, but it was Eminem's international stardom that catapulted them into the limelight. Eminem had just released the wildly successful The Marshall Mathers LP a year before producing D-12's debut studio album, Devil's Night. The album was released in 2001 and would go on to sell two million units in America along with four million worldwide. The album had the hits "Fight Music," "Purple Pills" and "Ain't Nuttin' But Music." This was in addition to a hidden Eminem track, "Girls."

Hit Albums

In addition to Devil's Night, which reached No. 1 on the charts in the U.S. and Canada, along with top spots in the U.K., Sweden, Germany and several other countries, the band's album D12 World also received critical and commercial acclaim. It reached No. 1 in the U.K., New Zealand, Canada and America. Fans still flock towards the album because it was dedicated to the memory of Bugz while also being the last album to feature Proof. Fans were also excited over the album featuring B-Real and Rondell Beene.

Show Experience

Those with D-12 tickets can fully expect a high-intensity show that everyone in town will be talking about for weeks. Unlike other concerts where rappers simply run around on stage, though, D-12 puts on a full film-worthy performance. Backgrounds move around behind the rappers, actors in masks are featured on stage during some songs and fans in the crowd are bouncing and have their hands up throughout the show. Band members interact directly with the fans and even sometimes jump down to slap them fives. It's a truly immersive experience, and it's one that no Eminem or D-12 fan should miss.
