Aldous Harding Tickets

Regarded by many music critics in the UK as a highly intense singer, Aldous Harding is a New Zealander of rare talent. She describes herself as a singer of gothic folk, but the truth is that her vocal qualities lend themselves to a number of styles. Harding is no mere chanteuse and writes much of the material that she performs. The 405 magazine, which focuses on music and modern culture, said that Harding constitutes a toweringly talented songwriter. She has also received favourable ratings in magazines such as MOJO.

Raised in the port town of Lyttelton, Harding has been signed to two independent record labels; one named Lyttelton Records, the other being Flying Nun Records. The latter is based in Christchurch, New Zealand, since it was founded by Roger Shepherd in 1981. In 2017, Harding made the switch to 4AD, a British-run record label that had acts such as Future Islands, Gang Gang Dance, Beirut and Holly Herndon on its roster at the time. This move gave Harding the opportunity to have her music distributed by the bigger-hitting Beggars Group, which also includes labels such as Rough Trade and XL.

In 2017, Harding embarked on an extensive tour of North America and Europe. She was also booked to perform some dates in her home country. Harding's mother is the folk singer, Lorina Harding.

Aldous Harding recordings

Harding was discovered as a busking musician by Anika Moa, a major label artist with several hit records behind her. Following their chance encounter, Harding went on to make her self-titled debut record. Aldous Harding came out in 2014 – made available in both a physical format and for digital download, the album represented many of the musical ideas that Harding had developed when playing with her band, The Eastern, earlier. The tracks “Small Bones of Courage” and “Stop Your Tears” are among its many highlights. The latter was released as a single and is the first song on the album.

Following Harding's move to 4AD, a follow-up album was released in 2014. Entitled Party, this work shows the New Zealander's vocal talent off in a variety of lights, from balladeer to folk singer. The first single to be taken from the album was “Horizon”. Harding's song “I'm So Sorry”, which precedes “Horizon” on the track listing, was recommended listening by none other than Charlotte Church, a singer with quite an ear for a powerfully put together vocal. The album features the backing singing and musicianship of Mike Hadreas, the Seattle-based performer better known by his stage name of Perfume Genius.
