More About Westonbirt Arboretum - Home to 18,000 Trees

One of the Cotswolds' most popular attractions, this historically important landscape dates back to the mid-19th century when plant hunting was a pursuit of the wealthy. First established by Robert Stayner Holford in 1829, the arboretum eventually found itself in the hands of the Forestry Commission. 600 acres of land house the 18,000 trees and shrubs can be found along the 17 miles of marked paths.

This luxurious display of wealth and aesthetic taste is divided into two halves - the Old Arboretum, showcasing beautiful scenery and a collection of exotic trees, and the Silk Wood, demonstrating a traditional working woodland from the 13th century.
