The Orb Biography - Experimentalists to Electro Experts
During the 1980s, DJs Alex Paterson and KLF member Jimmy Cauty collaborated to produce their first epic acid house anthem 'Tripping on Sunshine', mixing up acid house with relaxing ambient music on their Kiss EP. Superstar DJ Paul Oakenfold requested their help to look after the chill out room in his London club nights and the pair set about making a whole new genre for those seeking escape from the loud, pulsating beats of the main dancefloor. The act soon grew so popular they began attracting remix requests from huge dance artists, hitting the UK singles charts with tracks like 'Loving You' and 'Lily Was Here'. Cauty and Paterson split in 1990 but the latter continued under the same moniker, collaborating with other DJs to produce tracks like 'Little Fluffy Clouds'.
