The Mountain Goats Biography - Lo-Fi Sounds to Worldwide Tours
Multi-talented American musician John Darnielle started the band on his own in 1991 in Claremont, California. For many years, it operated as a solo project, but the guitarist has since chosen to collaborate with other host of other musicians including bassist Peter Hughes, singer Franklin Bruno and Jon Wurster of the rock band Superchunk, attracting a cult following in the process.
The group are famous for their poetic lyrics and cryptic song-craft with the song series 'Going To' attracting particular praise for its stark detail. Over the years, their lo-fi recordings have been the subject of critical acclaim, with 1995 LP Sweden often considered their best work. Since this high water mark, the band has since recorded a dozen more albums included All Hail West Texas and highly-praised 2005 record The Sunset Tree.
