Madness announce exclusive four-date tour of UK stately homes in summer 2018
Will the madness ever cease? Not if this veteran Camden Town lot have anything to do with it. Led by Graham 'Suggs' McPherson, the multi-member outfit burst onto the music scene in the 1970s and proceeded to spearhead the ska revival; winning over the hearts of the public with their 2 Tone melodies and distinctly British argot.
Touching upon themes including childhood memories, awkward adolescence and petty crime in their lyrics, hits such as "Our House" and "Baggy Trousers" became classics. Fresh off a tour of Europe and a top rated performance at the final V festival, the group have sealed their status as much-loved national treasures.

Madness: it must be Suggs
Famous for showcasing their homegrown interpretation of ska, Madness have been a mainstay on the music scene since forming as the North London Invaders in 1976. The year after their inception, they changed their name to a song by their musical hero, ska artist Prince Buster, and began to attract a strong live following around London and the South East. Touring with fellow 2 Tone bands like The Specials, the band provided a lighter, bouncier alternative to the punk rock that saturated the airwaves at the time, and became the leading light for the ska revival of the 1980s.
In 1980, their sophomore album Absolutely became their commercial breakthrough, and soon they were chart mainstays thanks to hits like "Embarrassment" and "House of Fun". Despite scathing reviews from publications such as Rolling Stone Magazine, the album struck a chord with the public, who sent the songs soaring up the charts. Quintessential lyrics such as "Naughty boys in nasty schools, headmaster's breaking all the rules" saw the band enter the British lexicon, where they remain.
