"Gondwana Tickets
It's no wonder that the people of Chile, with 4,270 km of coastline to enjoy, love beach music. Gondwana, Chile's first reggae band, has made the world fall in love with beach music, too, with their unforgettable mix of mellow, joyful melodies on horns and steel drums with traditional Latin beats.
Schedule
Especially popular in Spain, with dates booked at Las Dalias in Ibiza, Sala Copérnico in Madrid, Sala Totem in Pamplona and Sala Music Hall in Barcelona. Scandinavians also have a huge appetite for reggae, and Gondwana will be performing at very large venues in the national capitals there, like the Stockholm Globe Arenas in Stockholm, Sweden, and the Kulttuuritehdas Korjaamo in Helsinki, Finland.
Trivia
History lovers will immediately recognise their strange name "Gondwana" as an ancient Sanskrit word that refers to the mega-continent that drifted apart 200 million years ago. It broke apart into the continents of the southern hemisphere - South America, Africa, Australia and Antarctica - and the subcontinent of India. The concept of Gondwana has become a symbol for bringing together the global South and developing nations in peace and harmony.
Band/Singer
Santiago, Chile, is a regional hub for highly original and creative musical styles. In this melting pot of Inca folk, American Jazz, Latin salsa and European classical music, I-Locks Labbé assembled Gondwana's signature sound way back in 1987. There have been many band member changes over the years but recent additions have given them a new life. With charismatic singer Quique Neira at the lead and under the guidance of hit producer Dr. Dread at RAS Records, Gondwana is reaching out to the world.
Breakthrough
As audiences in Jamaica and North America fall under Gondwana's spell, the band has seen an increased interest in its music. They have appeared in several notable festivals and venues, including the Festival de Vina del Mar in Chile and Reggae on the River in California. Their growing fan base is cosmopolitan and eclectic, and though the lyrics are in Spanish, reggae music's legacy of love, natural living and harmony endures though their sound.
Hit Albums
The band has produced five albums to date, with several of those topping the Chile charts and going platinum. They have also released three best-of compilations, and plan a new album release soon. Their 2002 release "Made in Jamaica" pays tribute to the Island that is an origin of reggae sound, while their most recent release, "Resiliente," mobilised the bands incredible online following. Gondwana's web-based supporters have shored up what has sometimes lacked in institutional and industry support, with a grassroots following that is phenomenally supportive and loving.
Show Experience
These talented musicians are no stranger to the stage, with over 800 live performances. Those who have bought Gondwana tickets can testify to a high energy, dance filled night. Quinque Neira is a personable yet down to earth performer who builds a strong rapport with his audience and rallies the crowd to join the band in singing and dancing the night away. Under the spell of Gondwana's island-inspired melodies, the crowd sways and sings to music that explores both physical and spiritual truths while never losing its playful spirit.
