Glen Hansard Biography - On the Road With Didn't He Ramble

Born to a working class family in Dublin, the budding singer left school at the age of 13 to pursue his music career. He began by busking around the streets of Dublin before eventually recording his first demo tracks, with the financial help of this mother. By chance, one of the 50 demo tapes found its way into the hands of Island Records' Denny Cordell, who recognised his potential. Quickly realising he needed help, the instrumentalist formed a band made up of his former busker friends, which he called The Frames. They enjoyed underground success over the next few years, before their singer made his name in the film industry.

The acoustic musician first accepted a role as the guitar player in the Alan Parker indie film The Commitments, before being cast as a struggling Dublin busker in the 2007 film Once, given the protagonist's story reflected his own. The film was an overwhelming success, and saw the singer recognised with an Oscar for Best Original Song, 'Falling Slowly'. The time away from Ireland gave the musician time to write star tracks 'Revelate' and 'Say It to Me Now' which would go on to feature on the second Frames album Fitzcarraldo. The group soon became one of the most popular live acts in Ireland, providing the vocalist with the fame to carve out his own successful solo career. After the release of his debut album Rhythm and Repose, the music man returned in 2015 with the fantastic Didn't He Ramble, which was followed by an American tour.
