Goldie Lookin Chain Biography - Bringing Bling to Newport
Formed in south Wales in the early '00s, the group had recorded five albums-worth of material before securing a record deal after apparently being championed by rockers The Darkness. Built around a core of nine members - including leader P.Xain, rapper Eggsy and eventual TV star Andrew 'Maggot' Major - the group made a big splash in 2004 when their major label debut Greatest Hits crashed the Top 5, driven by tongue-in-cheek bangers such as 'Half Man Half Machine'. Achieving further success with their follow-up LP, they were soon courting controversy after dedicating their singalong anthem 'Your Missus is a Nutter' to David Beckham while performing live at an England football match. Such incidents helped propel Rhys and Eggsy to further fame as talking head-style commentators on TV shows, while Maggot won the hearts of the nation after finishing third in the 2006 series of Celebrity Big Brother.
