Alfie Boe: Lancashire's answer to Buble returns
Born in Blackpool, Lancashire in 1973, this golden-voiced tenor got his break while working as a mechanic. A customer overheard him singing and suggested he go to London to audition for the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company. He got the gig and moved to the capital to kick off his musical career. In 2002 he bagged the lead part in Baz Luhrmann's Broadway show La Boheme, then in 2006 he was signed to the Classic FM Presents label, and his self-titled debut album was a classical hit.
In 2010 he got a huge part, playing Jean Valijean in a concert performance of Les Miserables at London's O2 Arena, later appearing at The Last Night of the Proms. After undertaking a huge UK tour of his own, Boe cemented his reputation as one of the most gripping performers of his generation.
