The Wombats: Liverpudlians go from strength to strength
Matthew Murphy, Dan Haggis and Tord Overland Knudsen met in 2003 at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, gaining a cult following with lo-fi early EPs before Wombats debut album, The Wombats Proudly Present: A Guide to Love, Loss and Desperation, was released in 2007; featuring the smash singles "Let's Dance To Joy Division", "Backfire At The Disco" and "Kill The Director". Showcasing their trademark quirky sense of humour as well as huge indie tunes, The Wombats won the patronage of the NME and became a fixture on the live circuit.
Second album This Modern Glitch soon followed, produced by the legendary Jacknife Lee in Los Angeles. The record made the group a household name and saw them tour the world and recruit an army of fans in the process. Following stopgap single "'Your Body Is A Weapon", third album Glitterbug was released in 2015 and entered the UK charts at number five.
The group released "Lemon to a Knife Fight", "Turn", "Cheetah Tongue", and "Black Flamingo" throughout later 2017 and early 2018, before fourth record Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life landed at number three in the UK charts.
