Swim Deep Biography - Making a Big Splash
Forming in Birmingham's fertile rock scene in 2011, finding a permanent drummer was initially a struggle for the band who went through a succession of sticksmen. Eventually they settled on Cavan McCarthy, who was selling merchandise for fellow Brummie rockers Peace at the time. After impressing at a slew of local shows they eventually attracted the attention of Chess Records, which secured them a slot on tour with indie stagers Spector in 2012. Making steady progress throughout the rest of the year, they built their profile further with gigs alongside the likes of Mystery Jets and Splassh, earning praise from music press heavyweights including NME and Vice.
Tipped for the top by bloggers and tastemakers at the start of 2013, they got the year off to a great start supporting Two Door Cinema Club - exposing the foursome to a big national audience. Although telling interviewers their sound sits somewhere between Duran Duran and One Direction, critics have noted similarities with the likes of the Stone Roses and Pixies on their summery indie-electro songs.
