Suzanne Vega Biography - A Chart Star on Both Sides of the Atlantic
Originally hailing from California, the songstress spent most of her formative years growing up in New York City. Her educational background couldn't have been more perfect for a performer - studying dance at high school and literature at college gave her the tools she needed to put together her initial batch of breathtaking songs. After watching Lou Reed live in 1979, Vega was inspired to start recording her own folk-rock compositions, although it would take six years before her demo tape was accepted by a record company.
By the time she released her second album Solitude Standing in 1987, she was a major international star, hitting Number 11 on the US Billboard charts and just missing out on the top spot in the UK. Critics and fans alike praised her simplistic, but devastatingly beautiful compositions, art which she has continued to produce throughout her storied career.
In recent years, the industry veteran's jaunts to the UK have included slots at the Isle of Wight Festival and rapturously-received theatre venue tours, with Suzanne Vega tickets proving popular at box offices up and down the land.
