Skinny Lister tickets
Skinny Lister takes their name from the lister engine, often used on canal boats, and their music has the energy and drive of a powerful engine at work. With guitars, a mandolin, drums, an accordion, a double bass, a stomp box and a concertina as their instruments, this six-member band performs punk-folk music with a blend of English polka, sea shanties and even some American bluegrass.
Skinny Lister's folksy origin
Brother and sister Max and Lorna Thomas met Dan Heptinstall in 2009, and together they began playing pubs and folk clubs in Greenwich. Soon they were joined by Sam "Mule" Brace and Dan "Tash" Gray to create the original five-member band. By 2011, Skinny Lister had two EPs under their belt, Grand Union, recorded on the canal boat in between nightly pub gigs and The Hometown Tour, recorded as they visited each hometown of the band members.
The group began playing extensively across the Uk festival circuit. This soon led to tours in the US, Germany and Japan. During that time the band line-up shifted some, with the newer members including Dan Heptinstall, Max Thomas, Lorna Thomas, Michael Camino, Thom Mills and Sam "Mule" Brace as the complete six-person band.
Around 2011, Rob Da Bank signed Skinny Lister to his Sunday Best label, and they produced their 2012 album Forge & Flagon. With their new album complete, they arrived in the United States and performed at SXSW in 2012, where their talent for boisterous shanties and beautiful ballads were noticed. Soon Skinny Lister found themselves opening for Flogging Molly on The Vans Warped Tour in 2012, for both the US and Europe legs of the tour.
The Audience Experience
Skinny Lister have taken the folk and rip-roaring singing out of the pub and onto the stage. Known to bring a full flagon of rum to performances, Skinny Lister partakes and shares the love of music, rum and all things fun. With a willingness to explore the inspiration of the moment, the band sometimes pulls an audience member or two onto the stage to play a reel or dance a jig.
