Rascal Flatts Biography - Churning Out Hit After Hit
Second cousins Gary LeVox and Jay DeMarcus were seemingly destined to pursue a career in showbiz with the duo hailing from a musically gifted family. After pursuing their own musical careers the two reconvened in Nashville where they met guitarist Joe Don Rooney. Recommended by another singer to Lyric Street Records, the trio found themselves signed to a record deal before the end of the '90s.
Releasing their debut album 'Prayin' for Daylight' in 2000, the group crashed the charts, peaking at Number 3 on America's Billboard country charts. Their second, co-produced record Melt sold over a million copies within two weeks of its release in October 2002 and gave the group their first Number One - 'These Days' - marking just the first of many chart topping hits to come from the group. Yet it was their 2005 cover of country hit 'What Hurts the Most' that saw the group shoot to mainstream fame, with Gary LeVox's honeyed vocals propelling the track into the top 10 of the Billboard 100 chart, in addition to topping the Country and Adult Contemporary charts.
