Placebo: Brian Molko promises to play band's classic hits during 20th anniversary UK tour

One of the biggest bands of the last twenty years, hit such as "Nancy Boy", "Special K" and "You Don't Care About Us" made Placebo a cult hit among foreboding British teens in the late-90s and early 2000s. Now – after seven albums; record sales in excess of 12 million; and two decades in the music business – the champions of the outsiders are still going strong.

Widely regarded as one of the most entertaining live bands in the world, Placebo have sold out arena tours and headlined festivals in over 70 countries on six continents. And after again thrilling crowds with a brilliant set of classics and new material during their headline slot at this year's Lattitude, the band continue on their A Place for Us to Dream – 20 Years of Placebo tour with a long run of dates in the UK.

Placebo: "For outsiders, by outsiders"

Propelled by the strength of single "Nancy Boy", Placebo's self-titled debut album (1996) peaked at number five on the UK albums chart and helped the band quickly gain a global following.

The band's second studio album, 1998's Without You I'm Nothing, peaked at number seven and produced hits such as "Pure Morning" and "You Don't Care About Us" – both of which reached the top five. Black Market Music (2000) peaked at number one in France, number four in Germany, and number six in the UK while 2003's Sleeping with Ghosts was another global success. In 2004, they released a compilation album, Once More with Feeling: Singles 1996–2004, that peaked at number eight in the UK.

Meds (2006) was perhaps the band's strongest album, with hits such as "Infra-Red", "Because I Want you" and "Song To Say Goodbye" helping it to top the charts around Europe. Sixth studio album, Battle for the Sun, was released in 2009, followed by Loud Like Love in 2013.

In 2016, the band announced plans for a massive tour to celebrate their 20th anniversary, with Brian Molko telling fans that the setlist will include songs that he had previously sworn never to play again.

"This tour is very much for the fans and a chance for us to revisit a lot of our early material. So, if you want to see us play songs like "Pure Morning" and "Nancy Boy" which we haven't played in almost ten years - and may not play again - then you’d better come along to these shows," he said.
