Peter Hook Biography - Establishing a New World Order
This famous four-stringer's musical career began in and around his native Manchester's gig scene - in particular at a famous Sex Pistols show in the city in 1976. Guitarist and singer Bernard Sumner also happened to be in the audience at the sparsely populated, game-changing gig; the pair would eventually form Joy Division with their friends, drummer Stephen Morris and enigmatic singer Ian Curtis. Releasing era-defining albums Unknown Pleasures and Closer, their ascension to the top of the rock tree was cut suddenly and tragically short when Curtis committed suicide in 1980. Regrouping the same year as New Order, Hook, Sumner and Morris once again changed the direction of music with their innovative electro-rock sound on tracks such as 'Blue Monday', which became the biggest selling 12 record of all time.
Playing a key role in setting up Factory Records' influential club the Hacienda and putting his hometown back on the musical map, Peter went solo in 2009 after a number of legendary fallouts with his bandmates. The veteran bassist now regularly tours the UK, playing tracks from his former bands and giving talks around various book releases recounting his heady Madchester days.
