Returning with her first album in six years, Merrill Nisker has lost none of her provocative edge on 2015 LP Rub. The notoriously outlandish performer's latest work is a joint effort with the brilliant musician Vice Cooler, who co-wrote and produced all songs. Rub also features collaborations with Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth, Simonne Jones and Feist. Singles 'Light in Places' and 'Close Up' are great examples of her trademark electroclash synthpop, and while this record may be her rudest yet, it's also a great deal of fun. While 'Close Up' dips into suggestive innuendo, it's a rare example of subtlety in a brilliantly brash and abrasive release.

Peaches Biography - Infamously Provocative Electroclash Performer

Merrill Nisker has broken plenty of ground in indie rock circles, thanks to her penchant for sexually explicit and provocative lyrical content and disregard for accepted gender roles. Initially beginning her career as a music and drama teacher, she began to gain a following performing songs on stage outside of her working hours. Adopting her pseudonym from a Nina Simone lyric, she took on a larger-than-life persona and deliberately set out to shock, aiming to collapse what she considered dated cultural norms. Her debut album under her new name The Teaches of Peaches came out in 2000, and opening track 'F*** the Pain Away' quickly became her signature song. In 2006, she released Impeach My Bush, which was followed by I Feel Cream in 2009, but new LP Rub is her first in six years. In that break from her recording career, she worked on a musical called 'Peaches Christ Superstar', a tribute to Andrew Lloyd Webber's classic in which she played every single part, as well as writing, directing and starring in a semi-biographical rock opera called Peaches Does Herself to considerable acclaim.
