Nothing More Tickets

Put together in 2003 in Austin, Texas, Nothing More is a progressive metal rock band with two key members, Jonny Hawkins and Mark Vollelunga, who are still active in the group since its formation. The band is probably best known among general music audiences for its single “This is the Time (Ballast)”, which got to the top spot on the Mediabase Active Rock charts. It also reached number two on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart in the United States. The members of Nothing More are reported as saying that personal experiences and filmmakers tend to offer them their most inspiration as songwriters. Hawkins has gone on record to say that directors such as Terrence Malick and Stanley Kubrick have influenced his approach to music, as well as writers and thinkers such as Carl Jung and Eckhart Tolle.

Nothing More's formation and early years

Hawkins began his musical career as a drummer when, still at school, he met Mark Vollelunga, with whom he began to collaborate. At the end of their high school careers, the duo were joined by Daniel Oliver, who played bass with them. The band put out a number of albums in its early years, with a variety of singers. The first of these was Shelter, which came out as a self-released work in 2004 on CD and for digital download. Vandura followed in 2006, featuring the guitar work of Josh Kercheville. In January of 2007 another work called Save You/Save Me was unleashed, this time on the Vestia Entertainment label.

Also released on Vestia Entertainment, The Few Not Fleeting marked something of a departure for the band. Released in 2009, this was the first album Nothing More put out that featured Hawkins as both drummer and singer. Kercheville had also left the band, meaning that Hawkins, Oliver and Vollelunga were operating as a three-piece in the main, although Kercheville's guitar work did make it to a couple of tracks.

Nothing More's later work

Following the 2009 release, Devin Travieso was recruited to drum Hawkin's parts, so he could front the band more easily. Travieso was replaced in 2011 by Paul O'Brien and this settled lineup continued for a number of years as a four-piece. Indeed, this incarnation of the band went on to record the successful Nothing More, released on the Arms Division label in 2009. Reaching number 33 in the US album charts, it spawned four singles, including the rock hit “Jenny”. The Stories We Tell Ourselves came out in 2017, with Ben Anderson having taken over on drums.
