Moby Biography - From Punk Rocker to Techno King

Emerging on the music scene in the early '80s, Richard Melville Hall cut his teeth in hardcore punk outfit Vatican Commandos before signing a solo deal with Instinct Records. Hitting the UK Top 10 with his breakthrough single 'Go', he was soon enlisted to produce remixes for the likes of Michael Jackson and the Pet Shop Boys. Frustrated by a lack of attention from the music press, he returned to a furious punk sound on 1996's Animal Rights before popularising techno with his fifth LP Play in 1999. Fusing elements of folk and gospel on songs such as 'Porcelain' and 'Find My Baby' , the album was not an immediate commercial success but went on to sell more than 12 million copies, helped by the presence of many of its tracks on numerous adverts, TV shows and films.

In the years since, this musical maverick has become one of the world's most recognisable artists, releasing hit follow-up LPs such as 18 and Hotel, compiling photography books and advocating for numerous charitable causes.
