Born in 1981, Laura Pergolizzi is better known by her stage name, LP. A singer and songwriter who also plays the guitar and the harmonica, LP has been performing at a professional level since 2001. She is originally from Long Island in New York State and has released several albums to date. However, LP is equally well known for her work as a successful songwriter for other artists. She has penned tunes for the likes of Cher, Backstreet Boys, Christina Aguilera and Rhianna, for example. As a solo performer, LP plays a blend of indie rock and alt pop-rock.

LP's career milestones

After moving to New York City in the late 1990s, LP adopted her chosen stage persona and began performing at every opportunity. She soon came to the attention of David Lowery, an alternative rock singer with the band Cracker, who asked her to guest on a song for their Gentlemen's Blues album, which came out in 1998. The two musicians continued to collaborate and Lowery ended up producing LP's first album, a work called Suburban Sprawl and Alcohol. Released in 2001, it was critically acclaimed and backed up by an extensive US tour to promote it.

After a 2006 appearance by LP at the prestigious South By Southwest music festival, the singer began to get offers from major music labels who were interested in signing her. Although LP eventually opted for Island Def Jam Music Group, the partnership was short-lived and the songwriter moved on to SoBe Entertainment the following year. Around this time, she penned “Love Will Keep You Up All Night”, which was picked up by Backstreet Boys for their Unbreakable album.

By 2009, LP was writing songs for the likes of Heidi Montag and Rhianna. Some were completely her own work, but others, such as “Look How I'm Doin'”, were co-written with the established hitmaker, Cathy Dennis. Her first major breakthrough with a song was Rhianna's “Cheers (Drink to That)”, which also featured LP's own vocals on the song's hook. Other hits soon followed.

In 2012, LP put out her first EP on a major label. The five-track EP, Into the Wild: Live at EastWest Studios, was backed up by lots of festival performances, including those at Hyde Park, London, as well as Tropfest and Bonnaroo. Her follow-up studio album came out in 2014. Entitled Forever for Now, it reached 132 in the US Billboard 200 album charts and was a big hit in Belgium. Lost on You was unleashed in 2016 and charted well in Spain, France, Italy and Switzerland.
