At the Schauspielhaus Bochum, he perfected his craft as both a pianist and composer and even made his first steps into the world of acting, appearing in a number of TV and stage productions. In 1979, Grönemeyer made his debut with a self-titled, solo album which served as a perfect introduction to the German’s pop-rock sound. He released his second album, ‘Zwo’, in 1981 and also starred in the iconic film "Das Boot". After releasing a number of albums, the musician had his first commercial success with ‘4630 Bochum’ in 1984, which went on to become the year’s best-selling album in Germany. Over the following years, his music became increasingly political, and through his music, he addressed a number of issues including the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1991.
