Turning dancefloor classics into orchestral masterpieces, Hacienda Classical kicked up quite the storm when they began in 2015 Manchester festival Sounds of the City. With shows now set all over the UK, Hacienda Classical concerts are calendar staples for ravers everywhere wanting a new experience. Given the complete culture clash between ravers and classical music, reviews for the show has critics praising the incredible clash of sounds and dance fans scrambling for tickets.

The Hacienda Classical orchestra

Joined by DJs Mike Pickering and Graeme Park, the Hacienda Classical can lay claim to a number of classical reworks to '80s and '90s dance tracks, such as Armand Van Helden's "You Don't Know Me" or Candi Stanton's "You Got the Love". While the venture is headed by former New Order bassist, the orchestra itself is comprised of the experimental Manchester Camerata, who boast the title of "Probably Britain's most adventurous orchestra", given to them by The Times. Directed by the talented Hungarian musician Gábor Takács-Nagy, the orchestra features a roster of talented musicians, such as leading violinist Adi Brett. Aside from their impressive musical endeavours, Hacienda Classical can proudly boast a charitable streak, with the production company actively pursuing charities related to health and well-being, and various youth projects.

Hacienda Classical's live experience

While it might feel a bit jarring at first, there's little doubt that's something mesmerising about watching a 70 piece orchestra bring to life some of the most iconic dance tracks of the '90s. With the sense of nostalgia mixed with the thrill of watching a live concert, it shouldn't be a surprise that critics are praising the unique dance concert, especially with the excitement of the crowds making each event count. Neil Cormick of The Telegraph said of the shows "Never mind the music at this classically-inclined recreation of the legendary Manchester club - the audience were fantastic."

Hacienda Classical's club origins

As you may have guessed from above, the Hacienda Classical takes its name from the legendary Manchester club, The Hacienda. Providing Manchester with the cutting-edge of UK house music, the club became central to the explosive house-fueled summers of the late 80s. With the club losing its entertainment license in 1997 (due to multiple reasons), there would be very little that remained of the legendary venue, despite its house music legacy.
