Five Biography - Slam-Dunkin' Dudes With Street Smarts
The band came together in 1997 after responding to an advertisement placed in trade paper The Stage for a young boy band group with attitude and edge. After 3,000 hopefuls auditioned - including none other than future comedy star Russell Brand - the group was finalised with 'Abs' Breen, Ritchie Neville, Scott Robinson, Sean Conlon and 'J' Brown and eventually signed by Simon Cowell. Their debut single 'Slam Dunk (Da Funk)' scored the group immediate success after charting at 10 in the UK singles chart. 1998's 'When The Lights Go Out' found the group international fame after breaking into the US Top 10 and achieving Gold certification. In 2001 the street-smart band scored a prestigious spot at international festival Rock in Rio where they performed to an audience of nearly 500,000. Going out on top, the group disbanded shortly after.
After being approached by ITV2 the group agreed to participate in the channel's new documentary series The Big Reunion alongside other novelty 90s/00s acts including Atomic Kitten, Liberty X and 911. Following its success the group regrouped without 'J' to take part in The Big Reunion tour and later their own 2013 Greatest Hits tour.
