Established in New York City in 1970, the Fatback Band was the brainchild of Bill Curtis, a session drummer whose unique style of music merged a funk band with the "fatback" jazz beat of New Orleans. Specialising in a kind of street funk, they were signed to Perception Records. Their first hit single, Street Dance, reached the top 30 on the US Billboard R&B chart and the band then released their albums, Let's Do It Again, Feel My Soul and People Music. In 1976, the success of their hit (Do The) Spanish Hustle brought them a loyal fan base and they found themselves reaching the top ten with the single I Like Girls. Popular on both sides of the pond, they made regular appearances in the UK Singles Chart during the 1980s, with songs including "I Found Lovin'" and (Do The) Spanish Hustle".
