Empire of the Sun Biography - Collaborative Magic
Luke Steel and Nick Littlemore had already been signed separately to EMI as solo artists before meeting in 2000. After being introduced by an A&R executive, the two immediately hit it off and began collaborating on the down-low, eventually making an official release together on band Pnau's self-titled album. After hearing Luke's vocals, the group decided to scrap over 200 songs in order to re-record a more vocal-orientated album, marking the beginnings of the group as we know it today.
Debut Walking on a Dream was released in October 2008 and impressively peaked at Number Six on the ARIA charts, with the catchy title track soon following suit and charting in the Top 10. Inspired by the likes of Daft Punk, the duo share their idols' love of theatrical outfits, with Steel sporting futuristic ice blue costumes and Littlemore often adopting a military-esque number. Their space age influences more than come across in their smoke and light-filled live shows, with each gig promising something new, spectacular and delightfully unexpected.
