Elbow: 2018 UK tour announced
Famous for their highly emotive brand of orchestral rock, Elbow have been charming hordes of fans since they first burst onto the music scene almost 20 years ago. Describing their grandiose sound as 'prog without the solos', the bestselling Manchester act have stacked up a collection of accolades, including a Mercury Music Prize, a Brit Award for Best British Band and two Ivor Novellos.
Since their self-released Noisebox EP – named after the studio where it was recorded – was championed by the late, great John Peel in 1998, the band have gone on to release seven studio albums; including the 2017 chart-topper Little Fictions.
The Bury-boys are also widely regarded as one of the most entertaining live acts in the world; with their career-defining Pyramid stage performance at Glastonbury 2011 still one of the most talked about in the festival's history. And after thrilling crowds with a brilliant set of classics and new material during their 2017 UK tour, Guy Garvey and co. have announced that they will be back again in the spring of 2018 with a list of brand new UK tour dates.
The lads will play five shows around the UK in March 2018, including Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds. They'll also stop at London and Glasgow – meaning rock fans up and down the country will have a chance to see Elbow live. What's more, American singer-songwriter John Grant will be bringing his powerful, critically-acclaimed brand of music and songwriting along too after being listed as Elbow's support act. Elbow: award-winning anthem makers
Starting out as a college band in Bury, Greater Manchester in the early 1990s, the boys from Elbow could never have anticipated the impact they would have on the British music landscape. Lead singer Guy Garvey and guitarist Mark Potter finalised their line-up in 1997 and their intriguing standout sound helped them secure a deal with Island Records, releasing a string of EPs that captured the attention of post-Britpop music lovers. In 2001, they released their debut album, Asleep in the Back and their determination paid off when the critically acclaimed record received nominations for a clutch of awards.
Propelled to stardom as one of the biggest rock bands of the new millennium, the group secured high profile slots at Glastonbury Festival as well as international music venues. Throughout the decade since, Elbow have continued to produce quality records – with their fourth, fan-favourite album The Seldom Seen Kid cementing their place as rock royalty thanks to the strength of songs including "Grounds for Divorce" and "One Day Like This".
The group proved their widespread appeal in 2014 when they hit the top of the charts for the first time with The Take Off and Landing Of Everything while Little Fictions was their second consecutive number one album.
