The team formerly known as the Denver Rockets

The Denver Nuggets' origins date back to 1967, when they began competing in the American Basketball Association under the guise of the Denver Rockets. The team spent nine years playing in the ABA, making the Championship final against the New York Nets in their final season, before joining the NBA in 1976, by which point they had been renamed the Denver Nuggets. The franchise managed to qualify for the NBA playoffs nine years in a row in the 1980s and went one better in the 21st Century, making every playoff from 2004 to 2013. The Nuggets have won no less than ten division titles since their formation, with notable players to have pulled on their white jersey including Hall of Famers Dikembe Mutombo, Allen Iverson, George McGinnis, Dan Issel, Alex English and Charlie Scott and famous coaches including Doug Moe, Larry Brown and George Karl. The multi-purpose Pepsi Center

The Denver Nuggets have had many homes over the years. In their first eight seasons as a franchise, they alternated between the Denver Auditorium Arena and the Denver Coliseum and in 1975 settled on just one permanent base, the McNichol Sports Arena. In 1999, the team moved once again, this time to the state of the art Pepsi Center, which they continue to share with the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League and the Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League. Boasting a capacity of approximately 19,500, the venue has also hosted several other basketball events over the years, including the NBA All-Star Game in 2005, the Mountain West Conference men's basketball tournament from 2004 to 2006 and the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament on no fewer than four occasions.
