Bursting onto the international scene with "Volumen Brutal"
Led by brothers Armando and Carlos de Castro, Baron Rojo released their first album in 1981, long before Rolling Stone magazine ranked them among the Top 20 greatest Spanish rock bands ever. Titled "Larga Vida al Rock and Roll", the record earned a gold certificate and was accompanied by a national tour. A year later, they headed to London to record follow up effort "Volumen Brutal" at Kingsway studios, run by Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan. The album was recorded in both Spanish and English, with the translation assisted by Bruce Dickinson. A massive commercial success, the album earned Baron Rojo international acclaim and is regarded as one of the best metal releases Spain has ever seen. That year the band took to the stage at the Reading Festival alongside iconic acts such as Twisted Sister, Iron Maiden and Marillion to make their mark with the best live bands in the business.
