Babymetal - Japanese Heavy Metal Trio Announce 2016 UK Show
With their latest single 'Gimme Chocolate!' making waves in the Japanese charts, it won't be long until this Japanese trio take the UK by storm, with their catchy mix of heavy metal beats and J-pop music. Moving away from the classic themes of the genre, these lyrical teens focus on topics close to their hearts, like the everyday pressures put on adolescents across the world.
After the release of their self-titled debut album in 2014, the band made their first live appearance in the UK at the O2 Academy in Brixton. A year on and back by popular demand, the three girls are upping their game with a one-off gig at the Wembley SSE Arena in April 2016, so expect to hear hits like 'Megitsune' and 'Road of Resistance' live in concert. Babymetal Biography - Road of Little Resistance
After the split of singer Suzuka Nakamoto's first group, record heads looked to form a group around her powerful vocals, enlisting ten-year-olds Yui Mizuno and Moa Kikuchi to complete a trio that would go on to interpret the metal genre in a very different way. After receiving millions of views for their YouTube postings, the group went on to sign with a major record label and release their first official single 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' in January 2013. On performing live at the Summer Sonic festival in the same year it was reported that members of Metallica came to watch the performance.
The group's self-titled debut album was released in February 2014 to critical acclaim and reached both the number four spot on the Oricon charts and number two in Billboard Japan. With an average age of 15, they became one of the youngest groups to position so highly, and even topped metal charts in Germany, the UK and US. The following year saw them make their first appearance in the UK at the Sonisphere Festival, performing alongside the likes of Iron Maiden before opening for Lady Gaga at five of her ArtRave: The Artpop Ball tour shows.
