The fact that the late-90s Illinois trio made up of Mike Kinsella (also of Cap'n Jazz and Owen and Owls), Steve Lamos and Steve Holmes have grown such a large underground fanbase is down to their distinctive sound and the sparsity of live shows and recorded material.
