Nostalgic rock 'n' roll and celebrating the guitar greats

The William Aston Hall is actually on the Wrexham Glyndŵr University campus, which is only a couple of hundred metres from the Wrexham General train station. So getting to the venue presents no hassle at all - it's quick, easy and convenient. Parking is free, and there is enough room for more than a thousand vehicles, so that's a huge plus as well. The place can house just over 1 200 fans, so it's a nice in-between size venue, allowing you excellent views of the stage from anywhere in the house. The live entertainment isn't the same as you'd get at a dedicated music venue, and because it's very much a mainstream venue, you'll find that it's spread across the entire pop and light rock genres, covering many decades of both types of music. A big drawcard here has always been the musical tribute shows, and there have been some very good ones indeed, here, such as "The Story of the Guitar Heroes", which is an excellent night out celebrating the word's great wielders of the axe, featuring the music from everyone like Hank Marvin and Hendrix to Brian May, Slash and of course, Eric Clapton. There's also plenty of stand-up and pantomimes galore

William Aston Hall is also the venue to hit if you're after stand-up comedy. Acts like the deadpan neurotic Woody Allen-esque Milton Jones have proved to be great successes, and some of the biggest stars in UK comedy take to the stage here when they're on tour in the area. Children's theatre has also become a staple of this venue, and pantomimes can usually be found all year round. Top of the pops are the classics, like Puss In Boots and Jack and the Beanstalk, and the yearly calendar has always featured a good dollop of these.
