Tramlines Festival History - South Yorkshire Event Bigger and Better than Ever

Starting its days in 2009 in the heart of Sheffield city centre, this festival attracted performers like Toddla T, Pixie Lott, The XX and Example on its opening. Since then it has gone on to become hugely popular, drawing in the crowds - with over 65,000 attending the following year - whilst also adding venues like the iconic Leadmill and the O2 Academy to accommodate an increasingly impressive line-up. Dubbed the 'urban Glastonbury', the weekend continued to grow in prominence and by 2011, had 175,000 music lovers in attendance enjoying live performances by the likes of Ash, Olly Murs and David Rodigan. The third year also saw the addition of the Folk Forest, a venue that proved a favourite with residents of the area surrounding Endcliffe Park.

In the years since headline acts have included Katy B, Basement Jaxx, Buzzcocks and Annie Mac. Recent winners of Best British Breakthrough at the 2016 BRIT Awards, Catfish and the Bottlemen will headline this year's event, alongside Mercury prize winners Young Fathers, festival regular Toddla T and Norman Jay MBE, amongst a whole host of other rising stars.
