Though Torche doesn't consider themselves to be metal, they have built up a huge, passionate fan base on the metal scene since their inception in 2004. Their music is sludgy and powerful, with fans deeming it to be emotionally resonant. Torche tickets are sure to be hot property all over the globe, with new, younger fans experiencing the blissful noise that the previous generation of metallers still hold dear.
The legendary stoner metal band Torche are hitting the road for an epic worldwide tour that will see them play 52 gigs across Europe and North America. The European leg begins in Leipzig, Germany before heading to venues in Poland, Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Switzerland. All of the aforementioned gigs are interspersed with more dates in Germany before the tour heads to the Netherlands, France and Belgium. Torche then leaves mainland Europe for Britain and Ireland, with dates at smaller venues all across the islands. Torche then cross the Atlantic for the North American leg, where the band will begin in Seattle before heading into Canada for several dates. The band finishes the tour by playing the Midwestern and Southern states before ending in California.
The band were victim to a burglary while playing in Chicago that saw a large amount of their gear stolen. Their peers Hydra Head set up a donations account so that they could continue their tour. The theft of their passports prevented them from playing dates in Canada. While supporting Coheed, the band regularly played to audiences of just 15-20 people.
Torche are currently operating as a trio of Steve Brooks (vocals/guitar), Rick Smith (drums) and Jonathan Nuñez (bass), though they are supplemented by auxiliary guitarist Howard Johnston at live dates. The former guitarist, Juan Montoya, left the band in 2008 after an altercation with Brooks. Andrew Elstner briefly replaced Montoya before the band decided to continue as a trio. Torche are considered a supergroup by fans of the sludge/stoner metal scenes, with the original members having originally played in other Floridian groups such as Tyranny of Shaw, Floor and Cavity.
In 2007, Torche released the 7-track EP In Return to widespread acclaim. While their eponymous debut album had received decent reviews, In Return marked them out as being significant players on the Florida metal scene and was generally regarded to show greater songwriting maturity and lyrical prowess than its predecessor.
After In Return, Torche released their seminal second full-length album, Meanderthal. It was one of the most highly-rated metal albums of 2008 and elevated the band to new heights. Decibel magazine placed it at the top of its yearly Top 40 Extreme Albums list. Follow-up Harmonicraft was also viewed as one of 2012's top releases and saw the band embark on a major tour in support of it.
Torche has much experience when it comes to lengthy, punishing tours and their energy and enthusiasm onstage never flags. Their live pedigree is touted as one of the key reasons that Torche are able to constantly evolve their sound and continue to draw in a new, younger generation of fans. Prepare to be surrounded with fans young and old, all equally in for a thrashing metal musical treat."
