The Sunshine Underground (often called TSU by their fans) is a British band that makes fun, Indie dance music. Their music spans many genres, including pop, alt-rock, and electronic, and they have been active on the dance scene since 2000. They hail from Telford and Shrewsbury England. They signed on to the City-Rockers Label in London and have been releasing albums since 2006.
The Sunshine Underground have a busy upcoming tour schedule. They will be playing at Stylus University in Leeds, Scala in London, Kasbah in Coventry and Epic Studios in Norwich. The Sunshine Underground is composed of three band members who went to school together at New College Telford. They recorded most of their debut album, Raise the Alarm, in two weeks at a studio called The Dairy. The band has toured around the UK and Europe on a number of tours and they even made it to Japan, where they sold out multiple shows. They've also toured with Klaxons, CSS, and New Young Pony Club. One of their biggest shows was supporting LCD Soundsystem at Ibiza Rocks in 2010.
The band is made up of three members, Craig Wellington, Stuart Jones, and Matthew Gilt. The three were all musicians before meeting. When they met in college, they started to perform electronic music and moved to Leeds in order to keep practising and getting better. Six years later, they released their first album and started building their fanbase. They have been growing steadily in popularity ever since.
The band met and spent time playing together and getting their sound right before they started releasing new music. It took them five years to secure a record deal with City-Rockers Label in London and then they put out their first record the next year. The record received great reviews from NME, who dubbed them "nu-rave." Their debut single "Put You in Your Place" reached number 39 on the UK Singles chart in 2006 and has been the band's most successful single to date.
After their debut album and single release, the band spent a lot of time touring before releasing their second album, Nobody's Coming to Save You. They had built up quite a following by this time so the album did very well in sales. Their self-titled third album was produced by Ross Orton. The single, "Don't Stop," focuses more on electronic elements than past records.
This band is no stranger to the big stage and they have headlined giant festivals all over the UK and Europe. They played "The Other Stage" at Glastonbury as well as Reading and Leeds festivals. They also headlined the NME tour and sold out shows with LCD Soundsystem and The Happy Mondays. They have a lively sound and bring a lot of energy to the stage with their dancey songs and happy melodies. You'll definitely be fighting the urge to get up and dance at one of their shows - or you can give in to the urge and join the rest of the fans on the dance floor!
