Teenage Fanclub Tickets
Teenage Fanclub - Beloved Scottish Alt Rock Act Tour UK in 2016
One of Scotland's most beloved bands, Teenage Fanclub are celebrated for buoying their own signature brand of melodic rock. While some categorise tracks like 'Ain't That Enough' and 'The Concept' as power pop, it's not a term that Norman Black and co. find particular affinity with.
Taking inspiration from a plethora of influences, from the crunching rock and rising guitars of the Byrds to the sweet melodicism of The Beach Boys, the band provided a dreamy, jangly precursor to grunge. In fact, they were regularly namechecked by Kurt Cobain as one of his favourite bands. Teenage Fanclub Biography - Game Changing Melodic Rock
Going against the grain of pretentious sounding band names popular among new wave acts at the end of the 1980s, this group of Scottish musicians decided to call themselves Teenage Fanclub, although none of the members were actually teenagers at the time. Their early albums A Catholic Education and The King received positive reviews from music critics but it was their third LP that catapulted them to cult status.
Going at grunge from a power pop point of view, Bandwagonesque became one of the biggest sonic success stories of 1991, achieving cult status on both sides of the Atlantic. Crammed with decade defining classics such as 'The Concept' and 'Star Sign', the record famously beat Nirvana's epochal Nevermind as the album of the year in America's Spin magazine, but no love was lost between Teenage Fanclub and Kurt Cobain. He regularly praised the band as one of his greatest contemporaries.
Teenage Fanclub developed their signature sound (sometimes described as a less threatening version of punk rock), alongside a wave of '90s alt-rock bands like The Lemonheads, Big Star, Velvet Crush and The Boo Radleys. While such bands only enjoyed a brief moment of commercial vogue, Black and band have outlasted nearly all of their peers and their nine-album discography remains radiant in the eyes of critics and their cult fan base. They're still going strong and will embark on a UK tour in 2016 after supporting Foo Fighters last year, so what are you waiting for? Grab Teenage Fanclub tickets now on StubHub UK.
